Cory Kading, Director of Park and Recreation at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, is celebrating an exciting achievement at OHCE®2024: his park has won both the Large Park of the Year (tied with another) and Plan-It Green Large Park of the Year awards. These recognitions, ones they’ve been recognized for in the past as well, highlight the park’s continued commitment to sustainability and outstanding guest experiences.
“Santee Lakes was founded on sustainability,” Cory shares proudly. “We recycle over two million gallons of water every day that runs through our seven-lake system. All of our vegetation and trees are 100% watered with recycled water, and we have over four acres of solar panels that power our campground.” These eco-friendly initiatives are core to the park’s identity and have earned it the prestigious Plan-It Green Large Park of the Year award.
When asked what sets Santee Lakes apart, Cory says, “It’s our approach to constantly look for ways to improve. We’re always thinking about our guests’ experiences, how we can stay ahead of industry trends, and how we can continue to provide cutting-edge services. Winning these awards is a reflection of that continuous improvement and the passion our team has for the work we do.”
One of the standout projects that speaks to Santee Lakes’ forward-thinking approach is their new wireless telecommunications tower. “We’ve faced challenges with wireless connectivity in the park, but we’ve invested in a new tower that will dramatically improve cellular service across our 190-acre preserve,” Cory explains. “This project is set to break ground in early 2025, and it’s going to take us to the next level in how we serve our customers.”
Santee Lakes is also deeply committed to educating visitors about sustainability, particularly in relation to fishing and responsible recreation. “We teach young campers how to be responsible anglers and how to properly dispose of their fishing line and trash,” Cory says. “It’s all about building awareness and creating a positive impact that extends beyond the campground.”
Reflecting on his first experience at OHCE®, Cory adds, “It’s been great connecting with others in the industry. Hearing about their challenges and successes has been inspiring. Everyone is so willing to share and learn from each other. It’s been incredibly valuable for my personal growth and for the growth of our park.”
With their dedication to sustainability and excellence in guest experience, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve continues to set the standard in the Outdoor Hospitality Industry. Congratulations to Cory and his team for their well-deserved Awards of Excellence wins this year at OHCE®2024 in Oklahoma City, OK!
