Support for State Associations

OHI values state associations, their leaders and Boards, the support they offer RV park and campground owners and operators, and their legislative and professional development contributions. OHI wants to work with ALL state associations for the shared benefit of our members and the Outdoor Hospitality Industry.

With this shared benefit in mind, OHI has crafted strategic benefits that directly benefit our members and the industry. Let’s advance the Outdoor Hospitality Industry together.

A state association, or any organization, that wishes to utilize a single opportunity or combination of the opportunities offered below can do so by request.**

**Requests will be reviewed by OHI leadership and will be fulfilled upon approval and in the order received.

OHI continues to encourage RV parks and campgrounds to join both their state (where available) and national association because there is value in both.

Encouraging dual membership has always been the practice at OHI. OHI is committed to regularly recommending that RV parks and campgrounds join their state associations, because knowledge is king. The more plugged in a campground is at both the state and national levels, the more networking and resources they receive, the better they will run their business, and the better the industry will fare as a whole.

The OHI Board of Directors voted on Monday, January 29, 2024, to change OHI’s business model, and thus the financial relationship OHI currently has with partnering state organizations across the country.

This new model is a shift in the way national dues are collected. A lot has changed since this organization was formed in 1966, but what remains unchanged is our dedication to our members and organizations (specifically state associations) that support the outdoor hospitality industry’s success.

The change to OHI’s business model was not a decision made lightly. This process started in 2022 after conversations with industry leaders; a balanced representation of OHI campground members; consultations with association management expert Bob Harris, who has worked with 1,500+ non-profits and associations; and legal guidance from a nationally recognized firm specializing in the representation of nonprofit organizations. This shift in our business model was made, in part, to mitigate financial risks as state associations are their own individual 501(c)6 incorporations, with separate reporting requirements to the IRS.

Current partnering agreements will remain in effect through December 31, 2024.

Mid-year new members joining partnering state organizations will still be accepted through December 31, 2024.

Mid-year joins must pay their pro-rated national dues in full.

The dues waiver program is no longer available as OHI and partnering state organizations will not reconcile dues for the 2025 calendar year.

The business model shift will take effect on January 1, 2025.

One of the most important facets of this business model change is giving all members choice.

With this change, members can choose if they want state-level membership, national-level membership, or both. OHI will continue, as it always has, to strongly encourage membership at both the state and national level. The more engaged an owner/operator/prospective owner is, the better they’ll align with best practices, the better they’ll run their business, and the better the industry will fare.

We are excited about the future of the outdoor hospitality industry and OHI’s primary focus is the success of our members. This path forward allows OHI to be in service of all members. We know this thoughtful change will have a great benefit on OHI’s member value proposition, positioning OHI for a strong future supporting the owners, operators, and prospective owners of the outdoor hospitality industry for years to come.

OHI is guided by its mission, vision, and core values established in its strategic plan, but that dedication to the industry goes beyond the words on a webpage.

It is a promise to advance the industry every day in service of OHI members. The organization’s dedication to the success of all RV parks, campgrounds and glamping businesses remains OHI’s core purpose. This is proved in every professional development program, each new connection made during a networking event, the exclusive discounts that benefit your bottom line, and pointed advocacy efforts that benefit the whole industry at the local, state and federal levels.
